Hi, I’m Erica.
And I am a writer.
I have notebooks filled with any and all words that have moved me since elementary school. Boxes of notes, pages of poetry and essays and lyrics.
I communicate best when writing.
When it was time for college, the only option I even considered was journalism. So I wrote, edited and designed for my college newspaper until I graduated from Minnesota State University of Moorhead in 2007 with a degree in mass communications/print journalism, a minor in women’s studies and a certificate in publishing.
I am a North Dakotan, born and raised, and have been able to work with multiple rural newspapers. At the Tri-County News in Gackle, N.D., I was a journalist, columnist, editor and designer. Once my husband and I were married, I was hired as a journalist, columnist and photographer for the Leader News in Washburn, N.D.
Local journalism has my heart.
I now live in western North Dakota with my husband and kids. I took a little over a decade off of publishing my work to raise our four children, which has been the joy of my life. But they are getting older now, and the words have been calling me back.
I am currently freelance writing and copy editing for a local weekly publication.
I would love to help you write your message and tell the story.
My work has been published in the The Advocate, High Plains Reader, Tri-County News, Leader News, Hazen Star, Underwood News and McLean County Journal.
I self-publish a monthly newsletter for a local non-profit with news, features and profiles.
I am currently freelance writing and editing for a Vocella Graphic.
And, I cant leave without saying, I write poetry.
It was my beginning, my allegiance and my end all be all.
Weaving words together in a perfectly imperfect way, allowing the reader to feel familiarity, is the why.
